Denton Record Chronicle: United Way, TWU work on plan to combat payday lenders

In the next few years, Denton could have a community lending center to counteract payday and title lenders in the city.  The United Way of Denton County recognized the dangers of payday loans — small loans that are paid back on a borrower’s next payday with high interest rates. Organization leaders had talked about creating a community lending center where residents could get short-term loans at a much lower interest rate, but didn’t know if it was viable.  Read more here.
